What do the Duggars, a Muppet and Gun Control Have in Common? My August Writings!

unnamed

Basically my feelings of having 3 news pieces published, an additional 3 syndicated, having an article pitch accepted for a publication I’ve never written all in the past month. Each piece has been different than my usual themes. Editorial based on current events and a stab at humor that is not dark!

Grateful to The Skirt Collective, HuffPost, Muppet Mindset and Your Tango for sharing my work this month!

Ready to see what new adventures and inspiration fall will bring!

The Article where No One Dies or is Having a Life Crisis

As a former colleague once said to me when asked what she thought what genre best defined my writings last year, “You write about sick people, and your mental health.”

Grant it my writing often features heavier topics, but since I consider myself a life-experience storyteller, it made sense based on the circumstances going on in my life at the time.

There have been one or two article that I published for HuffPo this year that have more of a humor flare- alright more along the lines of the dark side but in all honestly it the best kind of humor.

Last week after the news broke that his relationship bit the dust, I came up with a top 10 list reasons why Kermit the Frog is the perfect boyfriend. It has been something that I have joked about for years, and many times Kermit has been referenced as my spirit animal.  Continue reading

10 Reasons Why Kermit the Frog Would Be the Perfect Boyfriend

Many of us are questioning the longevity of love in the 21st century thanks, to the recent slew of Hollywood romances that sizzled up this summer. The split that’s most shocking is between one of the longest relationships in Hollywood, spanning over 40 years. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have decided to part amicably, in order to continue a professional relationship as they returned to television this fall for the revamp of The Muppet Show on ABC.

No word yet if either Muppet has their eyes on new lovers, but not to worry. There shouldn’t be a lack of potential suitors, especially for our favorite amphibian. While Miss Piggy has gained a reputation over the years for being high maintenance, Kermit the Frog has maintained his southern, down-to-swamp charm despite his international stardom.

As a single woman who isn’t excited about most of the tadpoles out there, I sympathize for how intimidating it can be to leap back into the dating pond, even for America’s favorite frog.

But reentering the game should be easy for Kermit because he embodies the makings of the perfect boyfriend (including soft, snuggly fabric).

Here are the top 10 reasons why Kermit the Frog is now Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor, especially with George Clooney out of the running:

  1. Kermit owns his emotions and isn’t afraid to show them.

Being able to have an open dialogue about feelings with your significant other is vital to any healthy relationship. Kermit has never shied away from expressing his emotions. Not many men openly profess their love for their friends and family as frequently. But wearing his heart on his sleeve has been one of Kermit’s trademarks, guaranteeing the absence of passive aggressive comments and mind reading assumptions in your relationship.

Moving Right Along! Week 1 of #365in365

doallthethingsThe first post of 2015! Within 24 hours of publishing my insane list of 365 things I wanted to do in 365, I gave myself a panic attack. Honestly, not surprising. But then after a recommendation from a friend, I decided to break the list into things to accomplish each month month. Thankfully, that made things less overwhelming and my enthusiasm for the project was restored!

Here are the things I’ve been able to check off the list so far….

101 Things That Happened in the Last 365 Days

Facebook now has a new app that will create a short video clip about the highlights of 2014. To be frank, 2014 can kick rocks. Most of the year was spent dealing with stress, unhappiness and grief. But somewhere in the middle of the emotional roller coaster of the year, I managed to do a whole bunch of cool things. 2014 can only be summed in one cliche, corny phrase- Life Goes On.

Here’s a 101 memorable things that I did this year. Thank you for reading my ramblings, commenting on my essays, and/or being in my life this year.  I’m still wrapping my mind over some of the shit that went down over the past 365 days, so I won’t even try to guess what 2015 will hold.

101 Things That Happened in the Last 365 Days

Participated in a vegan chicken wing eating contest- This was a disaster, no one warned me that seitan expands once it’s wet. But it benefited Philly Roller Girls, so it was for a good cause!

Had an article go viral- I was annoyed about how much online dating sucked, and wrote an article about it one night after work. Apparently people like that kind of thing.

Happy Belated Halloween from the Highly Intelligent Cat

As if I wasn’t poked fun at enough from my online dating article including the ‘Highly Intelligent Cat and my love for the Muppets‘. But this made me laugh, and the costume was $3.00.

Side note- October 2014 was extremely good to me. Dare I say the best month out of 2014 so far. Fun fact- November is my favorite month in the year. Fingers crossed the good will continue to flow.

The Lovers, The Dreamers and Me

LockersIt’s not an unknown fact that the Muppets hold a special place in my heart. Probably more than the average twenty-five year old. My entire life, I’ve always been a huge fan of Jim Henson’s creatures- starting with my obsession with Fraggle Rock as a baby. There is photo of me sitting in my mini-rocking chair as a two-year old, starting at the Fraggle VHS playing on on our living room television. The tape that my mother would rewind multiple times day, playing that songs that most likely slowly drove her insane. Maybe that’s where my love of music, corniness and affinity to weirdos stemmed from- the subconscious messaging I was absorbing when my brain was the most pliable.

Not many people know this fact, but my love affair with New York City was started at age four when we rented Muppets Take Manhattan. It painted the illusion that anything can happen in that city- and made me want to live in lockers with Kermit’s friends. It was then I made the declaration I would live in NYC one day- to my amused parents. Little did the know 14 years later I actually would be (sans lockers).  Continue reading
