2016: The Year of The Highly Intelligent Cat

Of course I may be bias, but the cutest cat alive is the orange tabby cat that will forever be known as ‘the highly intelligent cat’. To capitalize on her cuteness, I started of 2016 by launching her own website, thatanniecat.com as well as her own Instagram that_anniecat.

While there is a part of me that has visions of feline internet superstardom, mainly the reason why I am so willing to share her with the world is to share the love. Yes, that sounds incredibly corny but it is true. Her ginger fur and endless expressions have healed my heart in ways that I may never be able to verbalize. And if someone can crack a smile or share in some of that warm & fuzziness through the world wide web, that is awesome.

According to the guidelines posted on BuzzFeed:

“The pets with the most “Cute” votes will rise to the top of our Cute or Not Top 10 and eventually CONQUER THE WORLD.* The coolest submissions may even be featured in exclusive editorial posts on BuzzFeed Animals dot com, the website!

*BuzzFeed cannot guarantee world domination for your pet.”

Becoming a Cat Stage Mom

Screen Shot 2015-08-04 at 11.13.18 PM

It’s official. Annie the highly intelligent cat, has her own Facebook page. I caved in and made her one because not only has she appeared in my Huffpo and xoJane Articles, but she also has been featured on social media sites for pet brands such as Frisky in Philly, Meow Mix and Friskies.

CK9ReB4UcAEB-b8On my Instagram account and Twitter account, I’ve been trying out new hashtags when sharing her photos. If her crazy expressions and personality can brighten my day, hopefully it can do it for others. Slowly but surely I’m becoming a cat stage mom. Welcome to the 21st century version of the American dream.

Like her page to check out funny photos and short videos of her posted whenever I remember to do so. If anything else, it will be a way to break up the boring photos on your newsfeed that show your friends’ kids posing the same way a billion times.

Moving Right Along! Week 1 of #365in365

doallthethingsThe first post of 2015! Within 24 hours of publishing my insane list of 365 things I wanted to do in 365, I gave myself a panic attack. Honestly, not surprising. But then after a recommendation from a friend, I decided to break the list into things to accomplish each month month. Thankfully, that made things less overwhelming and my enthusiasm for the project was restored!

Here are the things I’ve been able to check off the list so far….

Happy Birthday to the Highly Intelligent Cat

A year ago today I woke up after spending all of Christmas Day crying because of how awful I felt. It also was the same day I was surprised with a little fur ball. Annie became my cat at the right time in my life because most of 2014 was hell- but she did more for me than any pill, therapist or liquor could. Now she’s my faithful photobomber and is slowly becoming a viral sensation! A year later she has caused controversy as the highly intelligent cat in my dating profile and has made it onto xoJane and HuffPo! Happy birthday Annie Cat!

The Christmas Cat That Worked Better Than Xanax

Originally Published on Huffington Post on 12/24/2014 and xoJane on 12/25/2014

2014 can be labeled as ‘the year of…’ many things. The year I turned 25.The year I spent recovering from a super-shitty depressive episode . The year I successfully ate a clean diet for 40 days, and ran my first 5K. The year I wrote about my online dating failures and had several articles go viral . The year my best friend’s son suddenly died. But most importantly 2014 will be the year I got a kitten. The year of the highly intelligent cat. Technically I was given to her for Christmas 2013, but didn’t bring her home on December 28, which is practically 2014.

That day as I drove through the streets of North Philly with a plastic cat carrier with the tags still on it, anyone who passed by me would think that I was insane. “We’re almost to place Cat, just stop making noises” I screamed trying to match the volume of the ear-piecing wails my new pet was making. Within a span of 72 hours, I had agreed to accept the Christmas present from a friend, a 4-month old marmalade colored kitten that a friend of a friend had found wandering around his apartment building. “This is the thing you need. It will provide such comfort,” my well meaning friend when she introduced me to my very much alive and active gift. As the cat and I eyed each other up for the first time, we were both skeptical of each other.

When we finally got to my apartment, I let her out to get a lay of the new land. She scurried to the drawer underneath my bed, where Cat stayed for several days. (Yes, originally the cat’s name was Cat because she looked identical to the one in Breakfast at Tiffanys. Eventually I named her Annie because she was an orphan , and Cat became to annoying to explain to non Audrey Hepburn fans.)

Great. The cat that is supposed to make me feel less alone wants nothing to do with me. Initially I was certain becoming a cat owner was a mistake, and had begun looking for places to drop her off. I was such a hot mess myself, and this cat doesn’t even like me. Continue reading

Merry Christmas from The Highly Intelligent Cat!

It’s my first Christmas as a pet owner. Annie was actually a Christmas present in 2013! I found out I was getting her the day after Christmas and brought her home December 28th. More about how this cat, along with 2014 in a whole changed my life. But for now, I leave you with Catmas photos!

Happy Belated Halloween from the Highly Intelligent Cat

9777_10154741442640063_2061575217626468340_n (2)

As if I wasn’t poked fun at enough from my online dating article including the ‘Highly Intelligent Cat and my love for the Muppets‘. But this made me laugh, and the costume was $3.00.

Side note- October 2014 was extremely good to me. Dare I say the best month out of 2014 so far. Fun fact- November is my favorite month in the year. Fingers crossed the good will continue to flow.

I asked for Online Dating help- and XOJANE Comments Exploded

Screen Shot 2014-09-06 at 10.12.51 AMWriting my online reject article for xoJane was a shot in the dark- it was a personal experience that I thought a few people would be interested in, or maybe relate to. When it was published yesterday afternoon- all comment hell broke loose. I’m not going to lie- I spent Friday night pouring through the array of feedback in the comments section. Many uplifiting, and full of valid advice. Others made me want to drink tequila and cry into the fur of my mentioned (and must discussed) ‘highly intelligent cat’.

I woke up to this—all this in less than 20 hours. Continue reading
